192 scholars received their P2,000 two-month stipend each from Iloilo City Government’s Pag-ulikid Scholarship program during the distribution activity at Ker heritage building behind City Hall Nov. 23.

Mayor Jose Espinosa III led the distribution of educational financial assistance to qualified first year college students to help them finish studies despite poverty.
“Education nowadays is very important for we don’t know what will happen to us in the future,” Espinosa said.
“The only thing I’m asking from you is to pass your subjects and just be a good citizen of the community. Never engage yourselves in trouble, bad habits such as drugs, and always remember to be respectful to parents, classmates and teachers,” he stressed.
Richel Antoinette Layson, first year BS Foreign Service student of University of San Agustin was very happy to receive her stipend.
Layson said she will not ask money from her parents anymore because the stipend covered her daily allowances.
“I hope that the City Government under the leadership of Mayor Espinosa will continue to help and give scholarships to students like me”, Layson added.
The Local Youth Development Office is still accepting applications until Nov 29 for the second semester.
