22 FISHERMEN CHANGE STATEMENTS WHENEVER INTERVIEWED – PCG

“When the fishermen were interviewed by the media every day they change their [statements] and these statements can be made against them during the investigation,” said Joel Garcia, Deputy Commandant for Administration of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

Garcia mentioned that “nobody should make comments, especially the media” about the hit-and-run incident for the benefit of the 22 fishermen.

In an investigation procedure, PCG said authorities should “get the source statement to prevent them from being interviewed by others because you see they can be charged with sub judice.”

According to Garcia, the fishermen now have conflicting testimonies because the media asked them several times regarding the issue.
