MANILA, Philippines – Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade ordered the round-the-clock construction of Sangley Airport in Cavite to fulfill President Duterte’s directives.
Starting June 13, additional manpower and equipment will be added to the operation, including implementation of extended working hours.
“Whatever it takes, we need to make sure that the directive of the President is delivered. Hire more manpower to work 24/7. Kailangan matapos ‘yan on or before the timeline set by President Duterte,” Tugade said.
During the 38th Cabinet meeting on June 10, Monday, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the DOTr to immediately transfer some domestic flights to Sangley Point Air Base in order to decongest the traffic at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Duterte told the Cabinet that he wants to start the transfer by November, a month ahead of the transportation department’s December target.
The President also hinted at “revamping” NAIA after he made a “surprise inspection” of Terminal 2 that Monday morning.
