LEGAZPI CITY — Three alleged illegal drug pushers died in a shootout with police anti-narcotics operatives in a drug operation in Barangay Binitayan, Daraga town in Albay on Friday night, the town police chief said.

Pedrito Tibay alias Mao, Jeruth Catubig alias Bunker, and Carlo Rima were killed in a drug buy-bust operation in Purok (sub-village) 7 of the said village at about 6:20 p.m., said Daraga town police chief, Chief Insp. Rodelon Betita.

Tibay was considered as number one on the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) watch list in this town, while Catubig was number eight.

One of the suspects pulled out his .38 handgun and fired at the police team when they sensed that it was a sting operation, forcing the operatives to retaliate.

One of the police operatives, wearing a bulletproof vest, was hit twice on the chest, Betita said in a phone interview.

Betita added that the police team seized from the three some PHP100,000 worth of suspected shabu in 10 plastic sachets and three .38 caliber pistols. (PNA)
