BACOLOD CITY – 37 individuals were hired on the spot in the Kalayaan Job and Livelihood Fair in Negros Occidental on Wednesday.
The job hunt activity, organized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) drew in 893 hopeful applicants.
By the end of the event, held at the event center of 888 Premier Mall, 468 were qualified applicants and 567 were “near hires” and are scheduled for further interviews.
According to DOLE-Negros Occidental, 34 companies participated in the job fair – 26 local firms with 3,115 vacancies and eight overseas contractors with 4,404 vacancies.
DOLE Negros Occidental Chief Mary Agnes Capigon said that the annual job fair, held on Independence Day, aims to provide assistance to job seekers as a part of the employment facilitation program of the agency.
Capigon added that the local job openings were mostly in business process outsourcing and manufacturing, while the overseas positions are mostly for skilled workers.
