DAVAO CITY, Nov. 1- Former House Speaker Pantaleon D. Alvarez  got an official copy of the affidavit of Rep. Antonio “Tonyboy” R. Floirendo Jr.  accusing  him of the crime of libel  during a recent clarificatory hearing conducted by the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.

“It was during the hearing that Alvarez thru his lawyer was officially furnished copy of the complaint including the annexes and affidavit of the witness,” said Nicolas A. Banga,   legal counsel of Congressman Floirendo, also known as “Tonyboy.”

Atty. Banga was in the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office during the October 16, 2018 hearing.

“His (Alvarez’s) lawyer did not ask clarificatory questions but only asked for 30 days period within which to submit a counter-affidavit, and there was  no objection from our side,” Banga said.

A resolution on the case is expected next in December or January, the Floirendo lawyer said.

Congressman Floirendo’s complaint stemmed from a press conference called by then House Speaker wherein he accused the representative from the Second District of Davao de Norte of spreading information about his buying spree of several lands in Siargao, Surigao del Sur allegedly worth P500 million.

In the same press conference, Alvarez reportedly accused the Floirendos of being landgrabbers.

Alvarez was widely quoted in several news stories which came out of various newspapers and broadcast outlets.
