ATENEO INVESTIGATES ALLEGED CAMPUS RAPE INCIDENT
The Ateneo de Manila University launches an investigation regarding an alleged rape case that occurred within the campus.
The head of the Ateneo de Manila University Loyola Schools Sexual Misconduct Task Force, Dr. Mira Ofreneo, released a statement on Saturday, November 24 addressing the anonymous post in the Facebook group “ADMU Freedom Wall.”
In the online post, a female student said that she was sexually assaulted in the comfort room located in the 5th floor of a university building.
“We are taking the anonymous report seriously, and verifying the information starting with whatever leads are available from the post. If the report is confirmed, we will bear down on the perpetrators with the full force of the law,” Ofreneo said.
Ofreneo requested everyone to “remain calm and vigilant” and to come forward and share if they have “witnessed anything suspicious in and around the reported area.”
She further said that the administration does not tolerate any form of sexual violence on campus and that campus security has been reinforced.
“To the girl who reported, we are truly sorry for your pain and suffering. Our hearts go out to you and our doors are open to provide you a safe space and the necessary support and assistance,” Ofreneo added.
