BACOLOD BIZ REGISTRATIONS STILL IN HOT STREAK
BACOLOD City – “2019 could be another record year for Bacolod City business registrations.”
Mayor Evelio Leonardia declared after it was reported that business permits registration for January this year alone has already reached 16,994.
The number is 923 more than the 16,071 of the same period last year, or an increase of 6 percent, according to Stela Rose Rayos, head of Permits and Licensing Division.
“If this trend continues, we will have another record-breaking year. This is very encouraging and we will pursue this to the hilt. We appeal to all concerned to help us achieve this,” the mayor said.
Last December 31, 2018, the total annual business registrations of 23,187 was the highest ever.
This was also 4,370 higher, or a 23 percent increase, over what was recorded by the previous administration before the Leonardia administration took over in 2016; which was only 18,817 in 2015.
“As we continue to innovate and find ways and means to improve the ease of doing business, we will not only please and retain existing ones but even attract new investments. This is the core of our intensified campaign to establish Bacolod as one of the ‘most business-friendly cities in the country,’” Leonardia emphasized.
In its campaign to foster a friendlier business climate in Bacolod, the Leonardia administration has been holding a Business One-Stop Shop (BOSS) every January to February to encourage more investors to register their businesses.
Under the BOSS, business owners who can pay their permits taxes in full from January 1 to February 28 can avail of a 10-percent discount.
When Puentevella took over, business registrations decreased in 2013, and virtually plateaued in 2014 and in 2015. There was never an increase or growth in the business sector.
During his campaign, Leonardia promised to restore business confidence and improve the business climate in the city.
As validation of this business-friendly mode in Bacolod, the city government has received various national awards from prestigious organizations in 2017 and 2018 under Leonardia’s term.
