BARANGAY OFFICIAL 2 OTHERS DEAD IN ZAMBO SUR POLICE OP
DIMATALING, Zamboanga del Sur — Three people, including a barangay official, were killed in a shootout with policemen in a law enforcement operation in this municipality, police said Monday.
Col. Redentor Retusto, Provincial Police director, said the shootout occurred around 4 a.m. Monday in Barangay Baluno, after the three allegedly resisted and fired at the policemen who were serving search warrants.
Retusto identified the fatalities as Napoleon Casocot, the barangay chairperson of Baluno, Elmer Tambus, and Jeffrey Tulba.
Police said only Casocot and Tambus were subjects of search warrants for various crimes. Tulba was attending the wake of his friend whose house was just in front of the residence of Casocot.
Police said Tulba was a former detainee of the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Jail.
