BATCHOY, PANCIT MOLO CAPITALS OF PH
The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of Iloilo City recently passed a resolution declaring two districts of Iloilo City as La Paz Batchoy and Pancit Molo capitals of the Philippines.
Both noodle soup dishes were named after the city’s districts where they originated.
The resolution aims to help the tourists to identify the origins of La Paz Batchoy and Pancit Molo.
There are many noodles and restaurants in other places labeled as La Paz Batchoy.
“There are a lot of tourists coming in and they like to taste authentic food. We want them to know that these dishes originated here,” said Councilor Jose Efrain Treñas, who promoted Pancit Molo through the resolution.
Councilor Candice Magdalane Tupas authored the La Paz Batchoy resolution.
“La Paz Batchoy is my comfort food and I am happy because La Paz district has been recognized. This will encourage more tourists to visit and try the La Paz Batchoy,” said Kennah Lequigan of Brgy. Railway beside La Paz market.
“Every time my friends visit me here, I always bring them to La Paz Market and let them taste the La Paz Batchoy because you could feel the authenticity of the food,” said Carlo Gabriel Evidente.
