BI ARRESTS TURKISH WHO ASSAULTED TRAFFIC ENFORCER
MANILA — A Turkish national, who was seen on a viral video on social media assaulting a traffic enforcer in Makati City last week, was arrested by Bureau of Immigration (BI) operatives on Friday for overstaying and undesirability.
BI Intelligence Division Chief Fortunato Manahan, Jr. said Yuksel Ibrahim, 24, is now held at the BI Detention Center in Bicutan, Taguig, pending deportation proceedings.
He was earlier released by the Makati Police after posting bail, but was later arrested by BI intelligence agents for violations of immigration laws.
“We immediately conducted an investigation on his status once we received information about the incident,” Manahan said in a statement.
“We found out that he is already overstaying, and his blatant disregard for the law and disrespect for law enforcers show that he is an undesirable alien,” he added.
He said BI verification revealed that Ibrahim was also engaged in gainful operations without proper visa.
He was seen on social media evading a traffic violation in the afternoon of Nov. 22. He reportedly hit Michael Orcino’s arm and threw invectives as the enforcer was directing traffic in the middle of the street, and sped off when flagged down.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente reiterated his warning against illegal and undesirable aliens.
“Respect our laws, and respect our law enforcers. We will not tolerate this behavior. His actions show that he is a risk to public safety, and must be deported,” he said. (PNA)
