ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The local police's Drugs Enforcement Team (DET) arrested a suspected drug pusher and seized some PHP2 million worth of shabu in a buy-bust operation here, a top police official said Tuesday.
Chief Supt. Emmanuel Luis Licup, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) director, identified the arrested suspect as Alfredo Mariano, 48, a resident of Barangay Baliwasan, this city.
Licup said Mariano was arrested after he sold a sachet of suspected shabu to an undercover cop during a sting operation around 4 a.m. Sunday along Crispin Atilano St., Doña Maria Drive, Barangay Tetuan.
Police said they recovered from Mariano's possession two PHP1,000 bills used as marked money and 305.1 grams of suspected shabu packed in eight plastic sachets of different sizes with an estimated market value of PHP2,076,000.
Licup said the buy-bust operation was launched by the DET of the Police Station 8, led by Chief Insp. Ramon Bautista Jr., following surveillance on the illegal drug trade activity of the suspect.
Mariano has been charged with violation of Republic Act 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
