BRGY SUMMIT ON GOOD GOVERNANCE SET IN ANTIQUE
TO encourage barangays and other stakeholders to be active partners in the implementation of the national government’s programs, a Barangay Summit on Good Governance for over 600 barangay and government officials will be held on Jan 16, 2019 at the EBJ Gymnasium, Binirayan Hills, San Jose de Buenavista, Antique.
Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Antique Provincial Director Cherryl P. Tacda said the event shall feature a forum-discussion between key DILG national officials led by Secretary Eduardo M. Año and punong barangays on pressing governance, public safety, and peace and order issues.
It will also discuss future approaches to strengthen cooperation between the national government and barangay units to effectively and efficiently deliver quality services.
“The role of our barangay officials and community involvement is essential in the attainment of the current administration’s campaign for good governance.
Hence, no less than Secretary Año will confer with our punong barangays to encourage them to unite and be proactive in this campaign,” Tacda said.
Aside from Año, key national officials who are expected to grace the summit and discuss the different roles of the barangays are Undersecretary for Barangay Affairs Martin B. Diño on Duties and Functions of Barangay Officials; Assistant Secretary for External and Legislative Affairs Rico Judge Janvier Echiverri on the Prevention of Illegal Drugs; Assistant Secretary for Barangay Affairs and Partnership Roosque B. Calacat on Campaign Against Corruption; Assistant Secretary for Peace and Order Manuel B. Felix on Campaign Against Criminality; Assistant Secretary for Peace and Security Alexander L. Macario on Prevention of Violent Extremism, Assistant Secretary for Communication and Public Affairs Jonathan E. Malaya on the Fundamentals of Federalism; and, Undersecretary Allen Capuyan, Presidential Adviser for Indigenous Peoples Concern, on Understanding the CPP NPA NCF.
The summit shall also serve as an opportune time for the new DILG VI OIC-Regional Director Ariel O. Iglesia to interface with the barangay officials and DILG employees to discuss priority plans and programs for the province.
