GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Police arrested a member of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) for allegedly firing his gun during a drinking spree in a village in Lake Sebu town, South Cotabato province on Tuesday night.
Major Jardi Mont Sibal, acting chief of the Lake Sebu municipal police, identified the suspect as Roylan Gandam Nalon, 28, a resident of Barangay T’konel and a member of the CAFGU Active Auxiliary of the Army’s 72nd Infantry Battalion.
In his report on Wednesday to Brig. Gen. Eliseo Tam Rasco, director of Police Regional Office 12 (Soccsksargen), Sibal said the suspect was nabbed at about 10:20 p.m. following an altercation at his home.
Citing their investigation, he said that a heated argument ensued between Nalon and his cousin, identified as Jimmy Ana, while they were having a drinking session.
Sibal said the suspect, who appeared heavily drunk, eventually drew his handgun and fired a single shot.
No one was hurt during the incident but Nalon’s relatives and other residents in the area scampered in panic, he said.
“He was later restrained by members of the barangay peacekeeping team,” the police official said.
Sibal said a team from the Lake Sebu municipal police later responded to the scene and arrested Nalon.
Seized from the suspect was a Smith and Wesson caliber .357 revolver with serial number 276155, which was loaded with two live bullets and with a fired cartridge on its cylinder.
Sibal said Nalon will be charged with indiscriminate firing and violation of the election gun ban. (PNA)
