CEBU CITY MOUNTAIN BARANGAYS TO GET PRIORITY CALAMITY ASSISTANCE
Eight of 28 upland barangays of Cebu City will soon get free CCTV cameras in a bid to ward off armed men earlier sighted by residents, a resolution filed by ABC president Franklin Ong and approved by the city council stated.
Ong’s resolution was in response to the request of the Peace and Order Program (POP) of the city government.
The monthly share of the City from PAGCOR funds will defray the cost of the CCTV cameras estimated to reach the amount of Php8.4 million
The ABC president said in his sponsorship talk that the CCTV cameras will help secure the barangays from armed men police earlier said are just milling around the hills.
It was not disclosed, however, which mountain barangays will be prioritized.
Ong said the presence of cctv cameras in the said barangays will help deter criminal acts or facilitate solution to crime incidents.
In the same vein, some 430 drums have been distributed Friday (March 15) to the farmers of 28 mountain barangays in the city purportedly to lessen the problem of water shortage in these upland barangays. Some goats have also been distributed to the beneficiaries to assist their livelihood, it was learned.
“That will just be an initial distribution while waiting for the approval of the project costing some Php12million which will undergo a public bidding. The budget will be used to buy power sprays to be distributed to the farmers,” Cebu City Agriculture Dept. head Apple Tribunalo said.
Tribunalo, quoting weather forecast, said 60 to 70 percent of the water supply in the mountain areas of the city has already dissipated.
In the event the situation in the upland barangays gets worse, Tribunalo said she will as a protocol recommend for the said barangays to be placed under a state of calamity. #
