CHILDREN ENJOY 3G PARKS OPENING IN ILOCOS NORTE TOWNS
LAOAG CITY—In time for the long holiday for children, two three-generational (3G) playgrounds and fitness parks were officially opened on Monday in the towns of Sarrat and Solsona, Ilocos Norte.
"The comfortable playground is not only meant for children but for the whole family," Senior Board Member Matthew Joseph Manotoc said his short speech during the formal opening of the Solsona facility on Monday
A 3G-park refers to a communal space wherein children, adults and the middle-aged, and seniors can come together and engage in active play or exercise in an environment that is both secure and ripe for recreation.
“This is just the beginning. I’m looking forward to a continued partnership between the municipal and city government units and the provincial government to focus more on health and wellness, to have a place for family picnic or get together with friends of all ages,” Manotoc said.
He also urged everyone to take care of the facility and enjoy its new amenities.
The establishment of 3-G parks was funded under the Ilocos Norte government’s special educational fund meant for recreational activities and strengthen community relations.
As part of the Ilocos Norte government’s program to make Ilocos Norte a livable province, more 3-G parks are lined up for completion near municipal town halls and public schools to encourage more children to play outdoors other than staying indoors, hooked up with television sets and gadgets.
Out of the 21 towns and two cities of the province, Ilocos Norte hopes to establish about 12 communal parks in an effort to promote active lifestyle and overall wellness in the community.
A simple children's party with ice cream, popcorn and french fries’ treats were served to young boys and girls during the opening ceremony at the public plaza.
The affair was also attended by local officials, Daycare workers and children including senior citizens. (PNA)
