CHINA GOVERNMENT PROPOSES SISTERHOOD WITH COMVAL TO HELP IN THE ADVANCEMENT OF MINING INDUSTRY
DAVAO CITY- Consul General Li Lin of China’s Consulate General in Davao disclosed that they made a proposal to Compostela Valley Province to consider Longyan to be their partner or Sister City to help advance the mining industry of the province through mining equipment and other machineries.
Longyan is a prefecture-level city in southwestern Fujian province, People’s Republic of China, bordering Guangdong to the south and Jiangxi to the west. Longyan is rich in natural resources such as important mineral deposits and forest zones. The Septwolves tobacco business is an important contributor to the local economy, as is the Zijin Mining group. The largest construction equipment maker Lonking Holdings is based in the city.
“Longyan is a city in China that is advanced in mining and it has mining company that is considered the world’s biggest focusing on gold and copper mining and apart from that machine industry and other machineries are advanced,” Lin said.
Lin said they are eyeing to invite the city representative from Longyan to come to ComVal so that they can meet with the provincial officials or for local officers to make overseas visit.
ComVal is best known as a mining haven with 10 out of the 11 municipalities hosting mining sites with small- and large-scale operations. It is home to Mt. Diwalwal, also known as Mt. Diwata, an area considered to have among the richest gold deposits in the Philippines.
Lin said he had been approached by several provinces in Davao Oriental to make sister city relationships, however, he will still make assessments and will try to make recommendations.
According to him sisterhood between China and other cities via Local Government Units (LGUs) gives way to people to people exchanges and friendly cooperation.
“For instance if you want to travel to China which is so big it is sometimes very hard for you to find a good partner but one sister city or sister province can be a very good window so that if you have business in a certain sister city maybe you can focus on establishing this kind of mutual exchanges and then through that window you can exchange to other parts of China,” Lin said.
He cited example the sisterhood partnerships between Davao City and Nanning City and Davao City and Jinjiang City. Nanning City is the capital of the Guang I Zhuang Autonomous Region China. In October 2007 it is officially became a sister city of Davao City. It is known as the “green city” of China for its lush tropical landscape.
Jinjiang is a country level city situated in the southeastern part of Fujian province China. On November 15, 2018 Jinjiang became Davao’s second sister city from China.
