COP YIELDS SHABU, FIREARMS IN LANAO SUR CHECKPOINT
ILIGAN CITY — A policeman was arrested after he tried to flee from a checkpoint in Barangay Pagalongan, Marantao, Lanao del Sur, Wednesday afternoon.
Patrolman Alrajhi Londo Hadji Yasser was on a blue Toyota Revo when he was arrested at a checkpoint manned by the local police and the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
A report from the Marantao Municipal Police Station said Yasser, 34, even tried to pull his firearm but was overpowered by the policemen.
Maj. Nelson Madiwo, chief of Marantao Municipal Police Station, said Yasser has been under surveillance for almost a year now because of his alleged involvement in illegal drugs.
“We were not supposed to hold him (Yasser) but he was acting differently at the checkpoint,” Madiwo said, adding that the suspect may have feared being searched.
The police official said Yasser turned out to be carrying contraband with seven sachets of white crystalline substance believed to be shabu, disposable lighters, a strip of aluminum foil, an Uzi pistol with 10 rounds of live ammunition.
Police also arrested Yasser’s companion identified as Sowaib Baraocor Boransing, 29, a resident of Barangay Campong Inudaran, Marantao town.
Madiwo said Yasser is assigned at Pantao Ragat Municipal Police Station in Pantao Ragat, Lanao del Norte and a resident of Barangay Bubong Madanding, Marantao.
He was dismissed from the service in 2017 for serious neglect of duty but was reinstated in 2018. (PNA)
