M AKATI CITY – The Department of Education – Makati (DepEd Makati) obtained the ISO certification, a first for a city schools division office in the National Capital Region (NCR).

DepEd Makati received ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) certification after TUV Rheinland Philippines, Inc., an international management certification body, conducted an audit at the division office in Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo.

According to DepEd Makati head Rita Riddle, a total of 108 processes in the organization have been audited and certified by TUV Rheinland to bag the ISO 9001:2015 QMS certification.

“We are happy that all the systems and processes of the offices of DepEd-Makati have been certified as ISO 9001:2015 QMS compliant. As the lead agency responsible for the delivery of accessible, relevant and quality basic education in Makati, we strive to keep our performance at par with international standards,” Riddle said.

The certification body reviewed the management, administration and supervision of basic education services in Makati as prescribed by national polices on education.

The audit covered curriculum management, implementation, supervision, school governance, operations, and administrative services.

During the second phase of the assessment, TUV Rheinland found zero non-conformity which means that DepEd-Makati, in all of its 108 processes, has not deviated from any specification, standard, or expectation as applicable for each process.

DepEd-Makati’s services under the Office of the Schools Division Superintendent that have been audited and certified as ISO 9001:2015 QMS compliant included the following: legal services; ICT services; finance services (Accounting and Budget), administrative services including administrative services in Cash, Human Resource Management, Records, and Supply; processes in the Bids and Awards Committee; and processes under the office of the Assistant Schools Division Superintendent.

Sections under the Curriculum Implementation Division of DepEd-Makati that were also audited and declared ISO compliant included the Instructional Management Section, District Instructional Supervision Section, and Learning Resource Management Section.

Under its Schools Governance and Operations Division, all sections were also found to have been ISO compliant, as follows: Planning and Research Section, Social Mobilization and Networking Section, School Management and Monitoring Evaluation, Human Resource Development Section, Education Facilities Section, School Health and Nutrition Section, and SGOD-Education Program Supervisor.

Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay commended DepEd Makati for being the first to clinch such an international certification.

“I would like to commend DepEd-Makati headed by Superintendent Rita Riddle for being the first in the region to get the ISO 9001:2015 certification. It is a welcome development for us, especially for our public school students, as it can only mean that our public education program is in good hands,” Binay said.

Education has been one of the main priorities of Binay since she assumed the post in July 2016. Since the inception of long-running Project FREE (Free Relevant and Excellent Education), the city government has started distributing a brand new pair of rubber shoes, on top of the free school supplies and uniforms provided to public school students from day care to senior high school.
