LAOAG CITY – Mayor Jessie Galano is to be removed from as mayor of Paoay, as ordered by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) regional office.
According to Atty. Lawrence Patrick Estiliore, the office served a memorandum coming from the DILG Sec. Eduardo Año himself.
The memo states that Galano can no longer occupy any governmental seat after the case filed by Mayor Dolores Clemente against him before the Ombudsman.
Dated July 1, 2019, the memo further cites that any local elective officials with pending cases before winning the May 13 elections, can no longer be proclaimed, or hold a seat – like Galano.
Before this, the Provincial Local Government Operations Officer Samuel Borja already informed that if Galano has still an appeal before the Supreme Court, he needs to heed the order because there is still no court resolution.
With this, the Vice Mayor Romulo Acdal will occupy the Paoay mayoral seat based on law of succession.
Galano, however believes that he will still claim justice for his dismissal served by the DILG.
According to him, he is ready to step down from power but that doesn’t mean he will not fight until his name is cleared.
Galano added that it hurts he cannot achieve the plans he has for the constituents of Paoay.
He considers his appeal to the Supreme Court—waiting for a final decision.
Especially that his case is on grave abuse of authority, gross neglect of duty, grave misconduct and serious dishonesty over the falsification of travel documents—filed in 2015.
