DOJ HEARS CASE VS. COPS IN QC FISCAL MURDER
MANILA — Three policemen identified by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in the killing of Quezon City Deputy Prosecutor Rogelio Velasco appeared Monday before prosecutors conducting a preliminary investigation into the case.
Senior State Prosecutor Peter Ong, during the end of the hearing, gave SPO2 Rodante Sicat Lalimarmo, PO3 Arthur Yasonia Lucy, and PO1 Jose Lunar Mercado until Feb. 19 to refute the charges against them, after which the complainants are given until March 11 to file a reply.
Ong said the parties were likewise given official copies of the indictment against them.
Ong said the policemen were assigned to different units.
The defense’s counsels had requested the inhibition of the original prosecutor assigned to the case.
The NBI had also recommended filing of murder charges against other unidentified individuals.
Velasco was shot to death in Barangay Holy Spirit Drive, Quezon City. He was driving his car when another vehicle blocked his path. Armed men then stepped out of the car and fired at him.
Velasco’s children, who were in the vehicle with him, survived the ambush.
Velasco was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. (PNA)
