QUEZON CITY – Upon the directive of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) issued today, 3 December 2018, a resolution ordering the provisional rollback of the minimum fare for Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJ) to PhP9.
“Because of the continuous rollback in the price of fuel, Secretary Tugade directed us to implement a motu proprio fare decrease. We will implement that, and no fee shall be charged for a new fare matrix,” LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra III said.
The motu proprio rollback covers the first four kilometers of PUJ routes for the National Capital Region, Regions 3 and 4.
The Order, effective immediately upon publication, is predicated on the recent decrease in fuel prices in the world market, resulting in lower pump prices of diesel in the country.
Further, as directed by the transportation chief, the LTFRB has also resolved to come up with a formula that shall pre-determine fare adjustments, as set by economic indicators such as world market prices of crude oil, foreign currency exchange rate, consumer price index, inflation rate, and the financial viability of the public transport system, among others. The formula shall be deliberated and proposed by a Technical Working Group, which will be convened by the LTFRB.
