One of the nine evacuation centers undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Region 6 was already completed in Bago City, Negros Occidental.
According to District Engineer Genaro M. Panganiban of DPWH-Negros Occ. 4th District Engineering Office, the evacuation center was turned over by the district along with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) to the Bago City government.
“This P36-million, 2-Storey evacuation center, which stands on a 5,000-meter lot in Brgy. Lag-asan, is one of the nine evacuation centers being implemented by DPWH, with the total cost of P310.301 million,” Panganiban said.
“Two more evacuation centers here in Negros Occidental are being constructed by DPWH, one in San Carlos City and another in Sagay City,” he added.
DPWH 6 Maintenance Division Chief, Engr. Oliver E. Zamora said that aside from evacuation centers in Negros Occidental, seven other centers are being undertaken in the region.
“We are constructing evacuation centers in the towns of Carles and Zarraga in Iloilo, San Jose in Antique, Kalibo in Aklan, Roxas City in Capiz and Nueva Valencia in Guimaras,” Zamora said.
Each evacuation center has a main building that can accommodate at least 33 families or 130 individuals, an infirmary building that will serve as hospital for the injured and sick evacuees, and pharmacy for quick medical response.
Also, each center has toilets and bathrooms for males, females and persons with disabilities, pump room, laundry area, generator, water tank, cistern tank and materials recovery facilities (MRF).
