CAMP GEN. ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan -- A suspect included on the watch list of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) was killed while 12 others were arrested in separate anti-illegal drug operations conducted by Bulacan police in the last two days.
Col. Chito G. Bersaluna, provincial director of Bulacan Police Provincial Office, identified the slain suspect as Axel Cortez alias "Baris", 36, resident of Barangay Sabang, Baliwag town, this province.
Investigation showed that after the consummated drug transaction, the suspect engaged operatives in a shootout and was killed in the process.
Bersaluna, however, said Cortez's unidentified cohort managed to escape.
Recovered in the crime scene were a .38-caliber revolver without serial number, three heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets of suspected shabu, a white Samsung cellphone, coin purse and buy-bust money.
Bersaluna also said that 12 other drug suspects were nabbed in buy-bust operations conducted by operatives of the municipal police stations of Balagtas, Santa Maria, Plaridel, Pandi, and Baliwag.
He identified them as Hector Fuentes, Benedict Dela Cruz, Elizalde Cruz, Jomar Martin, Jennifer Martin, Monica Magdaong, Sandy Dela Cruz, Sixto Cabatin, Joshua Campo, Marboy Babael, Mark Jake Ocampo, and a 16-year-old minor.
Confiscated from the suspects were 22 plastic sachets of suspected shabu, assorted drug paraphernalia, and buy-bust money.
The arrested suspects and confiscated pieces of evidence were brought to the Bulacan Provincial Crime Laboratory Office for appropriate examination and are now facing criminal charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (PNA)
