DTI ISSUES EARLY HOLIDAY FOOD-BUYING TIPS TO NEGRENSES
BACOLOD CITY -- With still two months to go before Christmas, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has issued holiday food-buying tips to consumers in Negros Occidental.
Director of DTI-Negros Occidental, Lea Gonzales, said suggested retail prices (SRPs) for Noche Buena items have already been made available since Tuesday.
“Check the expiry date and price. The shelf price and cashier price should be the same. If prices differ, consumers will pay the lesser amount,” she added.
Gonzales noted that SRPs apply nationwide and to both supermarkets and wet markets unless specified.
She also reminded the buyers to always carefully check and compare the weight of competing brands.
Based on the new SRPs, a 500-gram ham can be bought from PHP137 to PHP949, depending on the brand, while fruit cocktail prices range from PHP49 to PHP225 for 432 grams net weight.
Cheese of various brands weighing 44 grams to 950 grams cost between PHP48.50 and PHP265. Queso de bola can be purchased from PHP169 to PHP495.
Also included are sandwich spread sold from PHP20.25 to PHP205.80, as well as mayonnaise in pouch and in jar which cost PHP28 to P283, depending on the net weight and brand.
Prices of spaghetti now range from PHP15.25 to PHP92; elbow and salad macaroni, from PHP15.25 to PHP92.75 for 200 grams to 1 kg.; spaghetti sauce, PHP22 to PHP77 for 250 grams to 1 kg.; tomato sauce, PHP12.25 to PHP81 for 115 grams to 1 kg.; and creamer, PHP49.50 to PHP69 for 250 ml. to 410 ml.
