ESTRADA PLEDGES HELP FOR FIRE VICTIMS IN MANILA
MANILA CITY – Manila City Mayor Joseph Estrada has vowed to extend assistance to all fire victims in Old Sta. Mesa and Barangay 849.
Estrada and Congressman Amado Bagatsing visited fire victims, donated construction materials which can be used to rebuild their houses, and ensured that their respective barangay officials are helping them recover from the incident.
Earlier, Estrada gave financial assistance to 231 beneficiaries from District 1 under the local government’s Capital Assistance Program (CAP) to help them jump-start their own business.
The city council, through the Department of Social Welfare, provides capital assistance program to Manila City residents who need additional capital to augment their small scale business.
Through this, the family could earn additional income for their daily necessities and prevent their children, especially minors, in engaging themselves to work that could put them at risk of different kinds of abuses in their workplace and circumstances of child labor.
CAP is in line with Republic Act 9178, or the Barangay Micro Business Enterprises Act of 2002, which seeks to strengthen Barangay Micro Business Enterprises (BMBEs) and generate additional jobs.
