MANILA — A Filipino student was drowned in Australian on Monday, February 25 as confirmed by Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

In the report to the Home Office, Ambassador to Australia Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega said authorities in Queensland informed the Philippine Embassy in Canberra of the death of the 24-year-old student from Queensford College in Brisbane. The Embassy was told the victim drowned off Flinders Beach in North Stradbroke Island.

The Office of Migrant Workers Affairs is touch with the family of the victim who have requested the Department’s assistance in the repatriation of his remains.

This is the fifth drowning incident abroad involving Filipinos since the start of the year. Two Filipinos earlier drowned in separate incidents in New Zealand while a couple also drowned while on their honeymoon trip in the Maldives.
