BACOLOD CITY – Hundreds of residents of Barangay 2 in Bacolod City lost their homes to a fire on Monday.
Some 230 families relocated to the Andres Bonifacio Elementary School gymnasium on Aguinaldo St. The Bacolod City government appeals for assistance.
Water, food, pillows, blankets, clothes, and other donations are needed for the displaced families. Pacita Tero of the city's department of social services and development said the Bacolod city government and barangay council have provided food and other assistance, but they are open to receive donations.
For those who want to give donations, a box has been set up at the lobby of the Bacolod City Government Center.
According to Bacolod city fire marshal chief Insp. Publio Ploteña, the fire started past 3 a.m. Firefighters had a hard time reaching the affected houses because of the narrow pathways.
The blaze reached fourth alarm status before it was finally put out at around 8:20 a.m. It was officially declared under control at about 4 p.m.
