THE island-province of Guimaras again proved its excellence in local governance after garnering major honors in the Excellence in Local Governance (EXCELL) Awards 2018.

Among all the provincial qualifiers this 2018, Guimaras was hailed first runner-up in administrative and environmental governance.

The same accolade was given to the province for excellence in economic governance.

Excell Awards is DILG’s way of recognizing best managed local governments in the region highlighting their achievements in governance, administration, social services, economic development and environmental management initiatives.

Local legislation was added this year as one of the major components in local governance that was assessed.

The participants include towns, cities, and provinces across Western Visayas.

In 2017, the province also got the second runner-up trophy for best performing province and the champion in environmental governance in 2017.

It was also awarded second runner-up in social, administrative, and economic governance in 2017.

The provincial government sent a delegation to receive the awards.

The delegation headed by vice Governor Atty. John Edward Gando includes Executive Assistant IV Jaypee Kein Entredicho, Executive Assistant III Virginia Ganza, Supervising EMS and OIC of Guimaras Environment and Natural Resources Office Leonard Pasiderio, Board Member Cyril C. Beltran, Provincial Board Secretary Ms. Lorena Itucas, Project Evaluation Officer II Leah Beltran, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Shirly T. Gabutin, Provincial Human Resource Management Office head Brenda Dajay.

This year’s Awarding Ceremony was held on December 12th at Diversion 21 Hotel in Benigno Aquino Avenue, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
