IBP- TAGUM CHAPTER CONDEMNS THE KILLING OF LAWYER
Lawyers of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines - Tagum City chapter condemned the killing of Atty. Rex Monforte Lopoz who was shot and killed by still unidentified suspect at the parking area of City Mall of Tagum, Wednesday night (March 13).
"We strongly condemn the killing of Atty. lopoz or the killing of lawyers in general. This serious incident is an affront to our legal system and the law profession," said Atty. Mylene Baura, IBP- Tagum chapter president in a text message.
Based on the report, 41 years old Lopoz and a resident of P9 Nabunturan Davao De Oro was about to onboard his vehicle when he suddenly fell down the ground.
The victim was brought by his companion "Daddy Santos" to Bishop Reagan Hospital thinking that the victim suffered a heart attack but while at the said hospital the attending physician Dr. Bercilla noticed that there was a gunshot wound at the back of the victim’s body.
The attending physician exerted effort to apply medical intervention however the victim died later. According to mall security guard Peter Gozon who was then posted at the entrance portion of City Mall, he allegedly heard a single gun burst from unidentified caliber of firearm and later discovered the victim fell on the ground.
Investigators processed the crime scene but were not able to recover any pieces of evidence relative to the incident.
Baura assured that the family of Lopoz can be assured that the chapter will support any investigation to ensure that justice will be served.
