ILLEGAL DRUG TRADE MENACE GETS BOLDER AS ELECTION NEARS
CEBU - Illegal drugs may flood the market during election period to raise campaign funds. This was according to Police Chief Superintendent Debold Sinas, Police Regional Office-7 director.
The supply of Illegal drugs is now being smuggled out from sources, including government-run city and provincial jails, the funds of which will be used to finance the campaign of some candidates, Sinas said.
“Every time there is election, illegal drug activities will spread from every nook and corner. Even drug lords inside jails still manage to conduct distribution of illegal drugs just to be able to raise money for politicians they support to buy votes,” Sinas was quoted as saying. “This is why we in the PNP do extra effort without let up to monitor these illegal activities. This is also the reason why we have confiscated millions of illegal drugs,” Sinas added.
Sinas did not name drug personalities involved in this continuing illegal drug trade who are seen to finance the campaign of some bets.
To recall, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte had earlier insinuated that the narcolist would be released anytime now before election. “We, the police force, favor the manifestation of the President,” Sinas said.
However, Director Arvin Odron of the Commission on Human Rights-7, expressed his concern over the publication of the candidates whose names appear in the list of politicians who are suspected of being involved in illegal drug business.
For his part, Cebu Provincial Police Office director Sr. Supt. Manuel Abrugena strongly suggested that the “narcolist” be published this early, it was learned. (FELIX BASADRE LON VIZ)
