LAOAG CITY—The province of Ilocos Norte is all set to welcome 12,000 athletes who are expected to arrive on December 6 for the Milo Marathon national finals here.
Faivo Bartolome, Sports Consultant of the Ilocos Norte Sports Development Council, said Thursday that a welcome program is now being finalized for the delegates.
“We have already coordinated with the concerned government and private entities on how we can best handle a huge crowd participating in this biggest sporting event,” Bartolome said.
The annual race highlights the 42-kilometer category, which will be joined by thousands of qualifiers from different regions, the 21K and shorter distances. As of this posting, registration of delegates is still ongoing.
Prior to the national finals, 11 qualifying races were conducted in Urdaneta, Pangasinan, Metro Manila, Tarlac, Batangas, Lucena, Iloilo, Cebu, General Santos City, Butuan and Cagayan de Oro City.
Meanwhile, the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office, led by Senior Supt. Cesar Pasiwen, assured it is ready to provide security during the grand event.
Senior Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Matthew Joseph Marcos Manotoc, on the other hand, appealed to all residents to show the Ilocano hospitality the province is always known for. (PNA)
