The National Library of the Philippines has chosen Iloilo City Public Library as host for World Read Aloud Day (WRAD) in Visayas at Ker and Company Building behind City Hall on Feb. 1, 2019 at 10 a.m.
“The purpose of this celebration is to help libraries in the country promote reading and make children read a lot despite the advent of technology. We are not saying that technology is bad, but we would want to incorporate to them the importance of reading a book which is an organic thing,” City Librarian Marion Aguirre said.
“There will be live streaming during the time when the kids read the story of the book entitled My Father is a Garbage Collector,” she noted.
Some 50 pupils aged eight to 10 from Montes 1 Elementary School will participate in the reading event.
The program will start at 7:30 a.m. with a registration, to be followed by the orientation, and crown decoration which the pupils will wear while reading.
Prior to the simultaneous reading which will be led by JD Precious Lagarto, Reading Clinician of Teach.Me Learning Center, there will be storytelling by Leo Romer Alminaza Jr., and Janamay Calibre.
The WRAD will be held simultaneously in Cagayan De Oro City Public Library in Mindanao, Muntinlupa City Public Library in Luzon, Puerto Prinsesa City Library in MIMAROPA, and Luneta Park as main venue.
