ILOILO DRIVERS URGED TO OBEY TRAFFIC RULES
The Iloilo City Public Safety and Transportation Management Office through the Transportation Management and Traffic Regulation Office (TMTRO) urged private and public vehicle drivers to avoid on-road parking, and loading and unloading in certain areas in the metropolis.
Based on TMTRO record from January to February this year, there were 30 drivers who violated Regulation Ordinance 393-A or Disregarding; 20 drivers who violated City Ordinance 2015-045 or revised Loading and Unloading Ordinance; 19 drivers who violated Regulation Ordinance 393-2A or Obstruction.
Violators particularly public utility jeepneys (PUJ) and private vehicles are fined P200 for each violation.
“One of the common problems is that some are making the sidewalks as parking areas. People should use sidewalk but because of parked vehicles, people use the road to walk instead, thus it creates traffic,” TMTRO officer-in-charge Robert Foerster said.
Foerster specifically said that streets along Iznart, J.M. Basa, Ledesma, Delgado, Infante, and General Luna were used as parking areas.
“Likewise, some of them are also picking up their passengers in areas where they are not allowed to do so,” Foerster added.
He also urged business establishments to designate parking area for their customers.
“In order to avoid traffic congestion, always follow city ordinances. I understand that drivers want to get passengers as much as they want, but always remember that it should be done while observing rules,” Foerster said.
