Compostela Valley – About 8,000 participants joined in  the recent peace rally initiated by peace advocates of Mindanao particularly that of Regions 10, 11 and 12.

Indigenous people and their Tribal leaders, Former members of Communist Terrorist Group (CTG)-NPA, non-government organizations, Youth for Peace Movement, and Local Government officials and some heads of line government agencies hoisted banners and placards bearing messages of peace, the participants marched through the main thoroughfares of the Davao City, General Santos City, Kidapawan City, Mati City of Davao Oriental and Tagum City of Davao del Norte on March 29, 2019 to campaign for peace.

The activity also showed the participants' support to government’s fight against communist insurgency with the hope to build peaceful communities for their families and for the future generations.

The peace rally coincided the NPA’s 50th anniversary.

In a statement, Brigadier General Mario  Lacurom AFP, General Officer-in-Charge 10ID said, people are awaken from the nightmares brought about by CTG and the said rally  only showed support to the government’s campaign and call other peace advocates to speak up make a stand to end communist-terrorist insurgency in the region.

The Local Government Units (LGUs) have made parallel effort in condemning the CPP-NPA-NDF’s 50th year. For the first quarter of this year there were two  provinces, three municipalities, one  barangay and one sitio that declared the CPP-NPA-NDF Persona non Grata in their respective communities.

Through Peace and Order Council resolutions, the following LGUs also declared the members of CPP-NPA-NDF as persona non Grata: Talaingod, Davao del Norte on January 16, 2019; Compostela Valley Province on January 25, 2019; Davao Oriental on February 19, 2019; and Barangay San Isidro, Tagum City, Davao del Norte on March 4, 2019;

Magpet of North Cotabato declared the Communist New People’s Army Terrorists (CNTs) as “persona non grata” during the town’s peace and order council (MPOC) special meeting.

Meanwhile, the CPP-NPA-NDF is also not welcome in the town of Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental under Mayor Jason John A. Joyce in Davao Occidental for their “continued acts of violence, terrorism, violent extremism and other forms of lawlessness, oppression, and harassment of the communist insurgents to the people.

Lacurom said the CPP-NPA had brought poverty to the people as many people were displaced from their economic source of income because of fear and unabated extortion.

Lacurom said protecting the people and securing the land’ will always be their focus in all activities/operations. He said the 10ID expresses support to the peace initiatives of their stakeholders through their ‘peace rally’ that aims to inform, solicit popular support and pose a challenge to all peace-loving Mindanaoans.

"They now want to enjoy living in a peaceful community and business without any fear while enjoying the fruits of their labor; hence, initiating actions to be able to pursue their dreams to become economically stable and their rights are respected," he said.

He said the people are now conveying their strong desire of a peaceful community.
