KIDAPAWAN CITY – Mayor Joseph Evangelista has condemned the murder of a traffic law enforcer here while performing his duty in Barangay Lanao on Tuesday morning.

Evangelista ordered the police to dig deeper into the murder of Jeffrey Atud, 31, a member of Kidapawan City Traffic Management Unit, who was gunned down shortly before noon.

While the traffic flow was not heavy, Atud took shelter under a tree because of extreme heat. Two motorcycle-riding men arrived and shot Atud in the head without any provocation, police said.

Witnesses said the shooting was daring since the corner of Maharlika Highway and Ninoy Aquino road was filled with people. “The murder happened in front of roadside stores and eateries.” the mayor said.

Evangelista assured the family of Atud that those he left behind would receive assistance from the city government. Evangelista said most of the shooting incidents in the city were triggered by personal grudge. (PNA)
