‘LAKBAY BAYBAY’ OFFERS A NOVEL WAY OF EXPERIENCING MARIKINA
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Marikina City Tourism, Culture and the Arts Office offered visitors a unique way of experiencing Marikina through the “Lakbay Baybay" tour.
Marikina’s famous tourist destinations namely Kapitan Moy, Puto Avenue, Mama Ting’s, River Park, the Marikina Sports Center, the River Banks Mall where the world’s biggest shoes are displayed, and the Shoe Museum were featured in “Lakbay Baybay,” billed as an “experiential tour” by the organizers.
What made “Lakbay Baybay” unique was that aside from allowing visitors to enjoy Marikina’s sights, they also participated in a game similar to the popular TV show Amazing Race. At the start of the tour, participants were given a problem to solve and maps to enable them to navigate and find the tourists destinations featured in the game. The clues to solving the problem were found in each place that they visited.
The four-day event -- held on October 20, 21, 27 and 28 -- drew the interest of 142 adventurers from different cities in Metro Manila.
To reach the tourist destinations featured in the game slash tour, the participants, mostly students and professionals, walked, ran, rode a bicycle, tricycle and jeepney.
Joining "Lakbay Baybay" was free of charge.
The event was part of the NCCA’s Tag-alog 2018: Unang Alon project that aims to promote Pasig River as a space for cultural identity and collective memory. Aside from Marikina, “Lakbay Baybay” also featured Manila City and its famous tourist destinations.
