More and more less privileged members of society in this part of the country will now get free medicine and hospitalization, courtesy of the Cebu City government’s Long Life Medical Assistance Program.
From Php55 million, the budget gets a boost and will now reach Php150 million.
Long Life Medical Assistance Program head Roseline Verano said next year’s free medicine and hospitalization budget gets a triple increase following the uncontrollable rising prices of medicine.
At present, some 45,000 beneficiaries benefit from the program which covers the distribution of free medicines daily and free hospitalization under the City Hospitalization Assistance and Medicine Program (CHAMP).
The increasing budget for the poor’s free medicine is incorporated in the annual budget of the Department of Social Services and Development (DSWD) of the Cebu City Government., which includes Php175 million for CHAMP, Php10 million for free medicine, Php79 million for the financial assistance of persons with disabilities and Php44 million for day care program of the local government unit.
