DUMAGUETE CITY - The word “bomb” can get one into serious trouble.

Such was the case of a young man who was arrested over the weekend at a mall here for making a joke about having a bomb in his backpack.

A report from the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) identified the suspect as Joram T. David, 22, single, of Kalye Pitong-Gatang, Barangay Boloc-bolod in Sibulan, Negros Oriental.

At around 3 p.m. Sunday, David was about to pass through security check at the entrance of the City Mall in Barangay Daro here.

While his backpack was being routinely checked by lady guard Tricia T. Gepes, the suspect allegedly uttered the Cebuano words “naa nay bomba ma’am (there is a bomb in it, ma’am).”

This prompted the lady guard, with the assistance of another security guard, Ianne Fortich, to place him under arrest.

He was turned over to the Sibulan police station for proper disposition. (PNA)
