MARIKINA CITY – The Marikina City government is undertaking more road widening projects to help alleviate traffic congestion in the city especially during rush hour.
Solving the traffic problem in Marikina is one of the priorities of Marikina City Mayor Marcelino Teodoro since this would help attract more businessmen to invest in the city, boosting the local economy and providing more jobs to residents.
“Mas malapad ang daan, mas makabubuti sa kaunlaran ng lungsod (The wider the roads, the better for the development of the city),” Teodoro said.
The city’s Engineering Department is currently constructing additional road along the corner of Gil Fernando Avenue and Sumulong Highway.
Last year, the City Government also added a new lane along Toyota Ave. and widened the McDonald’s Ave., resulting in the faster flow of traffic in the area including Jacamar and Chanyungco Streets near the Freedom Park and Marikina City Hall.
Aside from road widening projects, the local government is also repairing the fence along the Tumana-Palay Creek to prevent any accident in the area.
Earlier, city hall workers cleaned and flushed the creek along Sitaw Street to remove the sediments and dusts in the community as well as conducted clearing operations along the sidewalks.
Teodoro has instructed city hall personnel to maintain the environment and ensure the safety of residents.
