MARIKINA LGU ASSURES RIVER PARK SANITATION
MARIKINA CITY – Marikina City Mayor Marcelino Teodoro said the local government is ensuring the cleanliness and orderliness of Marikina River Park.
Teodoro said he ordered personnel of Marikina River Parks Authority to maintain the cleanliness and make sure that no one is throwing their trash along the river.
Heeding the mayor’s instruction, city hall employees are regularly collecting garbage floating in the river such as bottles, plastics, styrofoam, and cardboard.
Marikina River, which serves as the main waterway throughout the city, is a tributary of Pasig River with headwaters situated in the Sierra Madre Mountains in Rodriguez, Rizal.
It was once a significant transport route during the Spanish colonial era. However, the role it played diminished with the development of the country’s national highway system.
Meanwhile, Teodoro reminded residents to avoid throwing their trash in creek, drainage, and other waterways so it will not block drainage and result in flooding that will damage the environment.
