MARIKINA CITY – The Marikina City government is gearing up for Ka-Angkan Festival, an annual festival which celebrates the importance of unity in family.

“Ito na ang kultura natin. Kaharap natin. Kasama natin. Buhay. Ang kwento ng Marikina ay kwento ng pamilya, kaya pamilya ang pinapahalagahan natin. Ito po ay utang natin sa ka-angkan at pananagutan sa bawat pamilyang naririto,” Marikina City Mayor Marcelino Teodoro said in a statement on Friday.

During the city hall’s flag ceremony held recently, Teodoro introduced 44 families that will participate in the Ka-Angkan Festival Grand Salu-Salo and Mini Concert on April 13, 4 p.m. at Marikina Sports Center.

The yearly gathering of families, to be concluded with fireworks display, will recognize families or clans who have been living in the city for 100 years.

This will coincide with the celebration of the 389th anniversary of Marikina’s establishment on April 16.

Amid advancements in technology, Teodoro wants to keep traditions alive such as Ka-Angkan Festival to exhibit the significance of uniting family members from different generations.
