A NOTICE to proceed was already issued to the P11.2-billion Jalaur River Multipurpose Project II (JRMP II), the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) said.
General Ricardo Visaya, administrator of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), said the notice was granted on Nov 29, 2018.
“That is already the signal for Daewoo (Daewoo Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd.) to start the construction of the dam,” Visaya said.
“So makita niyo na nagmomobilize na sila. They are now in full mobilization,” he said.
The 109-meter Jalaur High Dam, 38.5-meter Afterbay Dam, 10-meter Alibutan Catch Dam and the 80.74-kilometer Highline Canal will be constructed simultaneously, he added.
On the other hand, the ceremonial groundbreaking, which was previously set on either the last week of November or the first week of December, was postponed again.
“There will be no groundbreaking this year. Ceremonial lang yung groundbreaking natin saJanuary, hopefully with the presence of the President,” he said.
Visaya anticipates that the JRMP II will bring more benefits to the people of Panay and Negros.
Aside from providing a steady supply of water to farmers even on dry season, the JRMP II will also ensure food sufficiency, electricity and water in the coming years.
“Kung kulang pa ang hydropower, then that can be produced by these dams, and reservoir natin we can construct floating solars. Sasabayan ng NIA ang paglago ng Iloilo,” he said.
Visayas also eyes to convert the JRMP into a tourist destination.
“We have to optimize ‘yung utilization ng ating dams. That could be converted into tourist destination na merong nagfi-fishing, jet ski, at may mga restaurant,” he said.
