MUNTINLUPA LOCAL GOV’T LAUDS WAR VETERANS
MUNTINLUPA CITY – The Muntinlupa City government commended war veterans in a recent event held at Liwasan ng mga Bayani in Barangay Alabang.
Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi led the commemoration of the 74th Liberation Day of Muntinlupa which was attended by about 100 veterans, their spouses and their children.
Veterans Federation of the Philippines president Manuel Pamaran, a retired Sandiganbayan presiding justice, received a plaque of appreciation from the local government.
Aside from Pamaran, Representative Ruffy Biazon, Community Affairs and Development Officer Rose Geli, and other city and barangay officials graced the event.
Fresnedi, meanwhile, unveiled the city council’s plan to put up an exhibit on the heroism of the city’s war veterans at the Museo ng Muntinlupa, which will open on March 1.
Every February 4, the local government honors Muntinlupa Veterans and Guerillas who fought the occupying foreign forces during World War II, as per Republic Act 9378 signed into law by former president and now House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Earlier, Takasaki Government official Minoru Umetsu visited the city mayor to discuss development projects between the two cities.
The official also went to the Japanese Cemetery located in NBP Reservation, Poblacionto pay homage to Japanese soldiers buried in the memorial park.
Takasaki, Japan is one of the sister-cities of Muntinlupa City.
