To give its local economy further boost, the National Power Corporation (Napocor) launches the 24/7 power supply of 29 barangays in three towns of Tawi-Tawi.
The round the clock power will benefit over 2,000 households being serviced by NPC SPUG’s West Simunul, Tandubas and Tandubanak Diesel Power Plants.
“With the increase in operating hours, we hope to give the people here better lives and livelihood opportunities,” Nestor Flauta said, Napocor’s chief for SPUG-Mindanao Operations.
Apart from making boats both for local use and export, the province of Tawi-Tawi thrives in fishing, agriculture and seaweed farming. The round the clock service is seen to help these industries.
Napocor President and CEO Pio J. Benavidez said that the corporation shall work double time this year to achieve its goal of total electrification in the country by 2020 and round the clock power service to all its facilities by 2022.
In 2018, Napocor increased the operating hours of 25 power plants, 17 of which were granted 24/7. It benefited 28,000 households in off-grid islands and far-flung communities in the Philippines.
