The Philippine National Police (PNP) declared a nationwide heightened alert due to Jolo Cathedral explosion that caused at least 27 deaths church goers while more than one hundred people are wounded.
During the media briefing with PIO Acting Chief PSSUPT Bernard Banac, the regional police directors were mandated to “initiate further security measures to preempt and prevent similar incidents”. Banac clearly stated that this nationwide heightened alert has been implemented because of the election but it is now give a lot more emphasis due to the incident.
