NAVOTAS LGU HAILS OUTSTANDING FISHERMEN

NAVOTAS CITY – The Navotas City government lauded 10 outstanding fishermen for their efforts in bolstering the city’s fishing industry and improving their livelihood through their job.

The local government commended Manuelito Villanueva of Barangay Tanza 2; Alexander Gonzales, Brgy. Navotas West; Jodolfo Paz, Brgy. Tangos South; Isagani Miller, Brgy. San Roque; and Jose Billy Garcia, Brgy. Tangos North during the celebration of Araw ng Mangingisda and the 113th Founding Anniversary of Navotas City.

Special citations were also given to Menandro Tongco if Brgy. Navotas West; Regulo Bacongan, Nomer Aligaya, and James Ong mula sa Brgy. Tanza 2; at Roque Lerma, Brgy. San Jose.

Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco, along with Vice Mayor Clint Geronimo and other local officials, led the awarding ceremony held at Navotas Centennial Park.

Villanueva and his family took home P8,000 cash gift, plaque of recognition, and an overnight accommodation at Diamond Hotel. All other winners will also receive cash gifts and plaques of recognition.

Their family members can also receive scholarship through the city government’s NavotaAs Ulirang Pamilyang Mangingisda Scholarship Program wherein each beneficiary gets P16,500 transportation at food allowance, as well as P1,500 book stipend bawat every academic year.

“Malaki ang respeto natin sa mga mangingisdang Navoteño. Dapat lamang tularan ang kanilang pagsisikap at pagsasakripisyo para masuportahan ang kanilang pamilya. Karapat-dapat na sila ay bigyan ng parangal at pagkilala,” Tiangco said.

(We have utmost respect for Navotas fishermen. People should emulate their efforts and sacrifices to sustain their family’s daily needs. They deserve to be honored and recognized.)

Noting that fishing is a seasonal job, Tiangco encouraged them to enroll in technical-vocational courses being offered by Navotas Vocational Training and Assessment (NAVOTAAS) Institute for free.

“Sa panahon ngayon, mahalaga na marami tayong alam na kasanayan o skills. Nowadays, it is important to be multi-skilled. Samantalahin ninyo ang pagkakataong makapag-aral sa NAVOTAAS Institute. Nagpapatayo tayo ng dalawa pang training centers para mas maraming mga kurso pa ang maihahandog namin sa inyo,” he added.

(It is important to learn a lot of skills. Take advantage of the opportunity to study at the NAVOTAAS Institute. We are at least two more training centers to provide skill training to more residents.)
