NAVOTAS LGU STRENGTHENS SERVICES FOR PWDS
NAVOTAS CITY – The Navotas City government forged a partnership to establish the San Lorenzo Ruiz Community-Based Rehabilitation Center in Brgy. North Bay Boulevard South-Kaunlaran.
Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco signed the memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Rev. Fr. Franklin F. Beltran, OP, parish priest of San Lorenzo Ruiz and Companion Martyrs Parish and Isaias P. Alipio Jr., MD, president of Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine-Rehabilitation Advocacy Research and Education Foundation, Inc. (PARM-RARE).
Under the MOA, San Lorenzo Ruiz and Companion Martyrs Parish will allot a portion of its church compound as temporary location for community-based rehabilitation and physical therapy (PT) clinic for three years.
The accord can be extended for another three years depending on the agreement of both parties.
PARM-RARE, on the other hand, pledged to donate basic rehabilitation equipment, as well as conduct training and provide technical support and manpower services for using, maintaining, and repairing the said equipment for at least a year.
Moreover, the institution will offer personnel trainings and seminars to appointed barangay health workers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists, among others.
During the MOA signing, Tiangco emphasized the need to support and ensure the well-being of residents, especially those who are differently-abled.
“Ang rehabilitation clinic na ito ay makatutugon sa espesyal na mga treatment at therapy na kailangan ng mga may kapansanan. Sa tulong nito, makatitiyak tayong mabibigyan natin sila ng sapat na resources at serbisyo upang maipagpatuloy ang kanilang self-development at self-reliance,” he said in a speech.
(A rehabilitation clinic which specializes in the treatment and therapy of persons with disabilities will ensure that they are provided with ample resources and services to attain self-development and self-reliance.)
Navotas City is set to have its own medical and wellness center in Brgy. San Jose that will offer community-based rehabilitation and physical therapy as well.
Last November, the local government formally opened the Navocare Community Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy Clinic in Brgy. Tanza 1 that can accommodate muscuskeletal cases including frozen shoulder, shoulder impingement, fractures, and sprains and strains.
It can also offer therapy for neurological cases such cardiovascular disease (CVD), Parkinson’s disease and cerebral palsy.
The same services will also be given at the San Lorenzo PT Clinic.
