CARIGARA, Leyte — Some 936 students from the Eastern Visayas State University’s (EVSU) Carigara and Burauen campuses received PHP2,000 each as financial assistance this semester.

Leyte Rep. Henry Ong said on Tuesday at least 669 scholars from the Carigara campus received the assistance and 267 from the Burauen campus during the distribution last week.

“I am glad that my office was able to give such assistance. It’s actually long overdue. I am just happy that some concerns were settled and the distribution has pushed through,” he said.

Ong assured that all scholars from Leyte’s second district will receive the same assistance even if they are enrolled in a university located outside the legislative district.

“I am thankful that my office was able to make the distribution for this is a fulfillment of a promise during my campaign,” he said.

Aireen Jonale, 27, of Dagami, Leyte, a graduating entrepreneurship student of EVSU Burauen campus thanked Ong for the educational assistance.

“This means a lot to us, especially that we need money to comply with all requirements for graduation,” she said.

The solon said they will complete the distribution of educational assistance early this year to support the studies of students from poor families.

The financial assistance is in support of President Rodrigo Duterte’s crusade to make free quality education available to all deserving students at all levels. (PNA)
