NEGOR POLICE FORMS BODY TO PROBE BOARD MEMBER’S SLAY

DUMAGUETE CITY — The Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office on Tuesday formed Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Dungog to probe the killing of provincial board member Miguel Dungog.

Col. Raul Tacaca, Negros Oriental provincial police director, said the SITG is composed of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office, the Crime Laboratory, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, the Dumaguete Police Station’s investigator on case, and Dumaguete police chief Lt. Col. Gregorio Galsim.

“I will personally head the SITG Dungog and in fact, we will be meeting this afternoon for our first assessment of information gathered,” Tacaca told reporters.

He further disclosed that the police have secured closed circuit television (CCTV) video footages from the establishments near and around the proximity of the crime scene while some witnesses have already been identified.

Dungog, current president of the Philippine Councilors’ League and sits as ex-officio member of the Provincial Board, died on the spot after he was shot in the cheek by still unidentified suspects while walking to his car from the Silliman University Medical Center, where he took his wife and daughter for a checkup on Monday afternoon.

He was talking on the phone while walking from the hospital when the suspects shot him. The motive for the shooting has yet to be determined.

The victim appeared to have been shot at close range, the police said.

Police recovered one spent shell of a caliber .45 at the scene of the crime.

Tacaca appealed to the witnesses to come forward or if they choose to remain anonymous, they can call the police hotline numbers.

Dungog is the first candidate in the May 13 polls to be killed in Negros Oriental.

Dungog filed his candidacy for the position of Board Member in the third district and was running under the ticket of incumbent and reelectionist Gov. Roel Degamo. (PNA)
